ibis head office recently made a grant fund available to its hotels for upgrading room facilities and Glasgow Quay was selected as one of the participating venues. We were called on to create a sample bathroom, which is now the approved design for ongoing development across the ibis chain.
Glasgow Quay Manager Majdi Orifij wanted to upgrade the look of bathroom facilities within his 187 bedroom hotel to keep in line with the new urban look of the Quay site. He asked our Commercial department to suggest improvements to the tiled area, which was outdated in comparison with the rest of the interior.
Our Selkie and Bühne wall panels were a clear choice for this project. With the ability to be placed straight over tiles where a flat wall is ensured, these versatile panels would provide a quick turnaround for a fresh new look. As well as the aesthetic benefits, the hard wearing qualities of these products make them ideal for a commercial area which sees repetitive and intense cleaning, as well as regular use.
Between both ranges of Selkie and Bühne, there are over 60 designs to choose from. We placed the selected Selkie decor of Travertine Rain horizontally on the walls for an artistic effect, with the panels joining seamlessly for a continual pattern. The pairing of this textured finish with a Magnolia matt base from Bühne created a cost-effective luxury appeal, which could easily be replicated across the hotel and associated locations.
The combined effect of the Selkie and Bühne panels completely revived Glasgow Quay’s bathroom design, banishing the usual tags associated with a budget brand. Keeping with the hotel’s new youthful, urban and quirky appeal, we have injected a freshness into the washroom facilities which will impress guests for many years to come. Ibis were so delighted with the finished results, we’ve now been commissioned to upgrade the hotel’s disabled bathrooms.
