Project: Anderson High School
Contractor: Morrison Construction (part of the Galliford Try Group)
Cost of project: £200,000 +
Rearo’s most recent commercial supply project has played an investment role in the future of the Shetland community, in particular, its youth. The recent renovation of Anderson High School attended previously by both Rearo directors Jimmy and Graham Mercer, represents the largest standalone schools project across the whole of Galliford Try.
This two-year construction which commenced in July of 2015 is a like for like replacement for the previous High School, the largest in Shetland, and caters for a maximum of 1,180 pupils.
Built on a completely new foundation, adjacent to the Clickimin Leisure Centre, the new build allows for students to make use of the local area and the sports facilities available. The modern state of the art building, despite its new image, remains true to the school’s 155-year heritage putting quality of education at the heart of everything it does.
As well as the development of the school building, Anderson High School also hosts its own boarding facilities for those in the more remote areas of Shetland.
Rearo’s contribution to the new build included the supply and fit of all washroom facilities within the school, the product of choice being our MFC (moisture resistant) core cubicles, IPS and vanity units with bespoke choice laminates. Colours were selected from available ranges by Formica and Sonae, using a bold statement yellow within female facilities and cooling mint for males.
Within the school’s Boarding Facilities, Rearo products feature in the buildings 80+ en-suite areas, including our own range of Selkie Shower Panels, as well as Formica’s range of Axiom worktops.
With the official handover taking place in October 2017, the Council's Chief Executive, Mark Boden, hailed it as “a landmark day for Shetland”.
He continued: “The Council has realised the aspiration of many years and delivered a state of the art, modern school. It will provide an ideal learning environment for Shetland’s children, and give school staff the best possible opportunity to deliver first class education.”
“This has been the Council’s biggest building project, with the construction contract costing £55.75 million. I want to pay tribute to the many organisations and hundreds of individuals who have contributed to the project; every single person’s contribution was vital and is appreciated.”
