Time saving tips for a successful spring clean

The clocks have changed, the Beast has gone back East and spring is in the air. Time to gear up for that great British tradition – the Spring Clean. With a firm plan of action, it’s possible to tackle this task in no time. However, if the mere thought fills you with dread, fear not! As bathroom and kitchen surface specialists, we’ve put together our top tips to help you successfully conquer the Spring Clean Challenge.

As one of the highest traffic areas in your home, your kitchen harbours a whole range of areas in need of a deep clean, including fridges, ovens and microwaves. Over the months, these items build up a fair amount of grime and grease, and it just doesn’t bode well with the freshness of spring. So let’s get your appliances sparkling!

Ovens: Secret weapon – bicarbonate of soda

To remove built up debris, add bicarbonate of soda to water in a spray bottle. Simply spray the solution on the interior surfaces of your oven, avoiding the heating elements. Leave overnight and wipe clean the next day. If any soda remains, spray it with vinegar to remove it. Simple!

Fridge: Secret weapon – toothbrush and toothpaste

Empty everything out and soak all the components in warm, soapy water. Remove stubborn stains and stuck on bits with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Tackle any lurking smells with a lemon. Cut in two and place one half on the top shelf, the other on the bottom to naturally absorb any unpleasant odours.

Microwave: Secret weapon – vinegar

A combination of vinegar and water will see off those stubborn stains. Heat a measuring jug with a 50-50 solution for ten minutes in your microwave, until it steams up. Use with a cloth to quickly wipe away the moisture and dirt.

A word about worktops:

The great thing about Rearo worktops is a little bit of daily maintenance will keep them looking fabulous, without the need for a deep clean. With laminates, make sure you wipe up accidental spills as soon as they happen with hot soapy water or an all-purpose cleaner. To prevent streaks, use a clean cloth or paper towels to dry. Use a soft toothbrush to clean along seams or metal edging. Solid surfaces will also retain their radiant, lustrous appearance for many years. Simply wipe down with a damp cloth or paper towel and, if necessary, a small amount of non-bleach, non-abrasive cleaner.

Worktop tip - The trick to keeping your worktop tiptop, is to get off to a good start with proper installation. All Rearo products come with their own guidelines to ensure longevity, so make sure you follow these carefully. And remember to seal your worktops as soon as they're installed. You'll know they're sealed properly when water beads and forms droplets on the surface. Seal them again a year later to maintain.

The best way to save time cleaning your bathroom is to adopt a wet wall solution, rather than tiles. With wet walls, you can say goodbye to grout and enjoy the easy clean qualities of panels instead. Our current Selkie, Versatile and Ancona ranges can all be wiped down with a damp cloth and non-abrasive cleaning solution. The result? Less time cleaning and a more hygienic bathroom.

Empty all your bathroom cupboard space and give the interior a quick vacuum to remove loose debris such as hair and spilled makeup. Use a plastic scraper for any sticky messes. Invest in storage solutions such as boxes or organisers before you put everything back in – an instant improvement to your everyday functioning!

So come on, grab your rubber gloves, put some tunes on and get stuck in to your Spring Clean today!
