Rearo have donated Selkie Silver Pearlescent Panels PLY sheet 2420 x 1200mm, Selkie Panel Adhesive and Selkie Silicone Sealant, as well as Trims in Satin Anodized Aluminium (H Trims, End caps and Internal corners) to the Lewis Retirement Centre, featured on the BBC ALBA series ‘DIY le Donnie’. Rearo products are being used as part of its transformation.

Airing in September 2017, Donnie Macleod with the help of local suppliers and the building community on the Isle of Lewis will undertake the renovation of the Lewis Retirement Centre in a one week timeframe.

The Lewis Retirement Home, Stornoway, is a self-funded charitable organisation run by a committee on a voluntary basis who are also responsible for the building’s upkeep. Donald McKee, the chairman of the committee, stated 19, 394 people used the centre in 2016. Visitors ranged from babies in the Breast Feeding Support Group to a 96 year old who attends one of the pensioners groups. The centre is a hub for the local community with weekly groups such as Monday Art Club, Ladies and Mens Cancer Support Groups, church organisations, the RNLI and Parkinsons Support etc.

One of the main aims of the centre is to support the local elderly population and to try and alleviate the loneliness and isolation felt by many living in rural areas. The committee tries to do this by encouraging and enabling as many groups as possible to make use of facilities in order to support this.

The current group took over running of the centre just over three years ago and have worked to transform it in to a lively and pleasant place for people to meet. The building itself is in dire need of updating and renovation in order to make it more functional and allow more people in the local community to use it.

The space is there it just needs reworked! This is where BBC ALBA’S DIY le Donnie can play a part an important role by enlisting the help and goodwill of a variety of local tradesmen to supply the required materials and renovate the centre.

Rearo are proud to donate to such a project and hope to assist in the development of such a good cause and continue operation and expansion of The Lewis Retirement Centre for many years to come.
