DIY Decor

In the run up to Christmas, we’ve got loads of inspiration to help make your home look and feel fabulously festive. First up, some ideas on DIY décor…

What is it about Christmas that tempts even the most reluctant creative to try their hand at arts and crafts? Maybe it’s the winter weather or dark nights, but there’s something quite cosy and appealing about getting out the glue and scissors – plus a few extras – and creating your own festive displays by the fireside. So, put the Christmas tunes on and discover your hidden talents for Christmas crafts.

Rockin’ Around The Christmas Wreaths

A wreath is almost as essential as a tree now at Christmas. And the good news is, whatever your style – traditional, minimalistic or maybe a bit dramatic – you can make one to match.

Above are three of our favourites from Pinterest. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Minimalist - using an embroidery hoop, simply attach some foliage to the left, tie some decorative string down the centre and glue on some lightweight ornaments. Finish off with a bow. Simple but stunning.

  1. Traditional – again using an embroidery hoop, this time wrap foliage around the full piece. Use a thick rope to decorate the centre and add cowbells. A thin satin ribbon at the top completes the look.

  1. Dramatic – no hoop this time, just a stash of baubles, a loaded glue gun, a bit of imagination and slightly more patience! The finished product is definitely worth the effort.

Winter Wonder Garland

Garlands fill spaces and add some extra magic. For an authentic look, go for natural resources like pine cones and dried oranges. Or for a bit of quirk, make some artificial stars and glue or thread them onto string.

Especially For You

Finally, when it comes to wrapping gifts this year, pull out the stops for a personal touch. A plain base decorated with ribbon, tags and strings looks both traditional and intriguing. Or try your hand at creating your own designs – we love the effect of white on black.  Even if your illustration skills are somewhat lacking, the sentiment is guaranteed to be appreciated!
